Music in Romantic Comedies

Music in romantic comedies tends to be upbeat (especially in rom-coms set in high schools, featuring younger characters), consisting of happy pop songs, to reinforce the positive mood of the genre. Often in trailers from the genre there are fun, lively and energetic songs playing. 

Music sets the mood for specific scenes, for example, if the character is in a rush, there would be fast paced music or when the character starts to fall in love, there would be angelic and possibly tranquil music.

In high-school rom-coms there is usually some sort of school dance or prom and these scenes would have lively music playing quietly in the background to keep the 'party atmosphere'.
