Prop List for My Trailers

Now that I have completed my shot list, and I will be filming soon, I am going to make a list of the potential props that will appear in my trailers.

Alarm Clock

The alarm clock signifies to the audience that there's some kind of urgency, and that Chloe needs to be somewhere. The fact that she is late, marks her out as ditzy.

Valentine's Day Card

This tells the audience that it is Valentine's Day, and is also a key symbol that Chloe is unlucky in love, as she doesn't have any other cards apart from the one sent by her mother.

Phone

This is a key prop because Chloe gets a call from her mum, confirming that the Valentine's card came from her. During the call, more is revealed to the audience about Chloe's character traits, and her relationship with her mother.

Lanyard

This prop is a key element, with huge narrative significance, as Chloe drops the lanyard (after some dialogue about how important it is) as she's running out of the door, late for her appointment. Not having the lanyard will create narrative obstacles later, but will also mean that she meets the man of her dreams.

Toothbrush

This prop is used to show how rushed Chloe is and sets up the start of the farcical events, by having her drop the toothbrush in the sink, and smears toothpaste onto her mouth by accident. Again, it reinforces to the audience that she is ditzy and clumsy.

Towels

This prop is also the focus of one of the funny moments, where Chloe grabs a towel, but they all fall onto the floor. Again, this shows that she is clumsy but also emphasises that she is in a rush.

Bread/Toaster

Coffee/Mug

Salt Pot

The bread/toaster, coffee/mug and salt are all used in the same series of shots as Chloe is getting ready, and the fast movement of her using these items shows how rushed she is. The salt has a particularly special role in this scene, as Chloe thinks it's sugar and stirs it into her coffee.

Bag

This tote bag is important as it is what the lanyard falls out of, which has narrative consequences for Chloe later. The tote bag also shows to the audience that Chloe is young and casual, which helps the audience to gauge her character even better.

Luggage Bags

Used when packing the car for the couple to go on a trip, before mishaps and mayhem ensue.

Car

The car is important because the female lead's dog jumps in, causing the male lead to steer chaotically (one of the farcical scenes in the trailers).

Additional props, to be used during a number of slapstick comedy set-pieces that will form part of the montage of my first trailer (and will make up the bulk of my second trailer) include:

Sunglasses

Tin of Tomatoes

Frying Pan

Dog
